I would love to go to London. But this isn't really about me. This is about another girl who wants to go to London and requested for a London theme birthday cake. So that's I gave her. London on a cake :)

First, I sketch all things "London"..

Then I sketch the cake choices.And guess which one they chose??

Yup. The second one.

And TADA!!

I prepared the London bridge, Big Ben and London Eye ahead of time..

And this is the end result :)

I'm quite proud of this cake because of the details that I did. It's one of the most detailed cake that I've done so far. =D

The next cake is the most chocolaty cake ever and I call it the SUPERDUPER CHOCOLATE CAKE! It's a very chocolate cake covered in the most delicious chocolate ganache, covered AGAIN with tons of M&M's.

I am not kidding you when I say I am drooling right now.

This cake is for a bachelorette party so I made gumpaste bra and panties and put it on top.

Playing with colours

A few customers have told me that they like my cakes because of how I play with the colours. It makes the cake pop and kids especially really get attracted to it. Colours really set the right mood for any cake. Soft, romantic colours for wedding and engagement cakes and pretty, warm colours for birthday cakes. But for me, one thing that is always the same for any type of cake is that there must be a contrast of a few different colours so that the cake isn't boring coz afterall, it is just a cake! so don't be afraid to play with even the brightest colours!

Birthday cakes should always be bright and cheery. But the background is usually a lighter shade of colour.

"Wonderful" start

I am officially the greatest genius the world has ever witnessed because I travel all the way from cheras to desa pandan without bringing the keys to my apartment. Now I'm stuck here outside of my house waiting to be rescued by my brother whose bringing me the keys. Just great. Luckily I get the internet connection from my house and my hour won't just be wasted doing nothing. So to cheer myself up, I'm gonna share some pictures of my beautiful cakes that I am so proud of. I want all of you to know that I put so much effort in making your cakes and making sure its beautiful and just knowing that you guys love it and how it makes your special occassion even more meaningful is enough to make my day..

Gooooood Morning! I'm up early today. Got lots of things to do. For those who have been waiting for my reply on quotations etc, sorry to keep you waiting but I will reply all of you today insyallah.. Here are some of our latest cake projects before I tell you guys more about the new space..

So remember last week I told you about our home improvement project? We revamped our old vacant apartment so that we could use it as our new workspace. Let's look at the before and after pictures..

1)Living Room: The marble floors were polished and the walls are given a new coat of paint. I chose light yellow because I wanted the room to have a bright feel and also because I'm so bored of white walls. Also, we changed the old light fixtures. The dining area gets a slightly more fancy light and I actually had it lowered another 5 inches than in the picture. oh and also we painted all the doors white including the main door which was changed into a new solid wood door.

2) Bedroom 1: This is the room beside the master bedroom. All the rooms are given a fresh coat of paint and the parquet was changed to tiles. Also, the window frames were change to new metal frames and the light fixture is also new. This room will be the office/bedroom.

3) Master Bedroom: Same thing was done with the master bedroom. new floors, new paint and new window frames.

4) Bedroom 2: Also the same thing for bedroom 2. new floors, new paint and new window frames.

5) Kitchen & bathroom: This has got to be the best makeover in the whole house. The kitchen was in the worst condition and now its pretty and sparkly and the layout is more practical. The kitchen used to have a door (you can't see it in any of the pictures,its on the left side.) which was actually beside the front door, but we had it closed to give more space.

The bathroom are given new plastic sliding doors so they don't eat up space and since they're plastic, they last longer and are easier to clean and maintained.

We added the shower head. Before this, the bathroom had a big water container (kolah air. heh.) which took up a lot of space. Now it feels bigger. We added simple, inexpensive bathroom accessories from Ikea.

We've now added more furnitures and decorations to the space and I've already started doing my cake deco work there. I'll update more pictures later.. =)

New cakes and New space part 1

Hey there folks! How u doinnn..

Sorry for the delay on updates. Been busy juggling cake orders and also filling up our new space. Yupp, that's right, our new workspace. Before I tell you more about that, let me just show you some of the cakes that we have done..

Love the deep purple colour

My mum has an old apartment somewhere in KL. We used to live there when I was small. I was still in kindy at that time. Then after we moved my aunt rented it from us and after she moved out, my cousin and her husband did. And after that, the house was empty for quite a long time, until just recently. I managed to convince my parents to fix up the place so that I could turn it into my office/workspace/humble abode (heh) rather than let the space go to waste. And boy did it need a lot of fixing..Please bear in mind that this is just a medium cost walk-up apartment unit, and not some fancy schmancy one. I still loved the place for one because its so near to shops and a lot of amenities and also because it's so near to the town center. These 'before' pics are a bit low res coz I took it with my handphone camera.

So, as you walk in this would be the first thing that you'll see, the living room. With some furnitures in it still. And they are the original furnitures from when we stayed here in the 90's..

Some are still in good condition, like those dining chairs. The table however, was not..

This is the master bedroom. Nothing fancy. Remember I told you this is a really old, medium cost apartment. So there isn't an attached bathroom..

This is the second room. Back in the days, this was me and my brother's room..

And this is the smallest room. Its next to bathroom, so as you can see on the left wall, the water has seeped through..

The parquet flooring is old and dull and some have even come off..

The worst part of the house that needed the most fixing was the kitchen and the bathroom. For some reason, when I first came into the house after a long time, I saw that there was leakage in the kitchen..

The not-so-magical-but-absolutely-wonderful BUTTERCREAM

I've had a lot of customers that tell me they like our cakes because they love our buttercream. Most of them say because its smooth and there's no gritty sugar in our buttercream, and most importantly that our buttercream isn't too sweet. Thank you to those who complemented, and I must give the compliment to mi mama because its her magic hands that usually makes the buttercream. I've tried writing down her recipe and doing it myself but it doesn't really turn out the same as when my mum does it. hmm..

Anyways, besides the taste, a good buttercream makes the decoration look nicer too. Like the cake in the picture above, you can tell that the buttercream is really smooth. Especially when you want to smooth the buttercream on the cake (like what we did on our Zebra cake), its really easy if you have the right consistency. If its too thick or hard some would say, it makes the job harder and its difficult to achieve that smooth, shiny look.

Of course I can't tell you what my mum's secret recipe is, but if managed to find a rather interesting buttercream recipe here. They called it "World's best buttercream" so I guess its worth a try! Let me know if anyone does try and maybe you could even share some pictures of it =)

OMG. It's been the longest time since I last updated the blog. By the way 'Selamat Hari Raya' to all our Muslim friends. Me & mamamia have both been super busy. A lot has happened since the last post. The biggest thing has got to be me quiting from my permanent day job. Some people were puzzled why on earth I did that, other's were amazed and supportive of my move, while family of course can't help but be worried. But I'm happy I did it, because in the end, to me, in life you have to do things that make you happy because you only get on chance at life and of course you would want to make out the best of it. It will never be easy, but working on your passion will definitely give you the ultimate satisfaction.

So enough about me, let's see some of the projects that we have done. And I must say that I'm happy with quality of work that we are at now, we definitely have improved our skills in baking and also cake decorating.

Firstly, let me just show you the birthday cake that my mum made for my maksu. Happy Super Belated Birthday Maksu!!hehe..It's a Coconut buttercake and since my maksu don't really fancy sweet cream, we just served it plain with some simple deco. Although I have to admit that I cheated a bit with the flower because that was bought from the cake shop that I always go to =P.

Second is the most recent birthday cake that I made. Those are actually goalie gloves which later on I added adidas logos on the side but I didn't snap a picture.

Next is hantaran cake. And this has got to be one of the most romantic hantaran cakes I have ever made. However, I was in a rush and forgot to snap a close up picture of the roses. If you can see, There are also some rose petals on top. Oh! and by the way, the cake stand is actually one of my hantaran dulang that I rent out. Cantik kan? =D

I don't know if you guys noticed, but I LOVE doing kiddy cakes, birthday cakes usually. And I'm happy with this next Hello Kitty cake. And I thought I did a good job with the font since I'm usually bad with cursives! =D

And lastly..my favourite of the bunch, this aeroplane on runway in the sky cake...I hope you guys love it as much as I do!

I know this is a cake blog but just for a change...

Daisy

C a t s...c a t s...c a t s...we loved cats. We have nine cats and four newborn kittens (anybody interested?). I'm proud of the way I photograph them. They are always very original, photogenic and graceful. Believe me, where do your think the word 'cat walk' came from!

Meet Daisy our calico female Persian.

Daisy

She is about 2+ years old and shes the mother to all the other cats. Lovable and gentle character but alway very careful when stranger is around! She has a coat of three colors, white, black and red. That is why she is called Calico or Tortoiseshell cat. Its lucky to have a Calico female cat because you can have kittens of different colors.

'Putih' is our only local kampung cat. A bit older than Daisy. She have beautiful blue eyes. Loved to be photograph..sometimes! Quite temperimental (after her operation) due to hormone imbalance I quess. Alway 'cari pasal dengan Daisy! When she was younger she used to have fake diamond earings on her ears..she just look gorgeous! But not now..she hate it!

Just look at her eyes..so captivating! Nowaday she like to be a lone ranger. Can't get along too well with the other Persian cats. This is the danger of racism! Come on Putih..you all are still cats yo!

And put it in the oven for Baby and me.

Down the memory lane..we used to sing this rhyme together..mum and her little girl..
Who would have guess..20 years later that is exactly what we're doing now..!
I think its every childs joy to being able to mess around with the flour, helping to break the eggs and tasting the batter..enjoying the hot baked cake right from the oven with a glass of cold milk! emmm..beautiful memories..

Had a bad headache last nite.. had never experience anything like this before..what a relieved.. Ayan's kicking back this morning..mama prepared a 'poor man's comfort food' for everybody..have a look..

It a kind of vegetable stew (hehe..I think..), potatoes, leek, carrots, onion, chicken stock. Bring the soup to a boil, then reduce to a simmer, cover and cook until the vegetables are tender than add the sausages until cook and the broth has thickened. Eat it with a nicely toasted bread.

but I like to eat it this way..

Hello again, how're things going? We're quite busy for the past few week. To our dear friends and customers thanks for trusting us with your wedding cake. Here are some of the cakes that we have made..

What a great pleasure to make this beautiful Tiffany blue wedding cake. Ordered by Ain for her brother's wedding.

more beads, ribbons and white roses topping..

It is a four tiers wedding cake. The bottom cake is 12 inches, 2nd tier 10 inches, 3rd tier 8 inches and last tier is 6 inches. Cake flavour is cookies and cream and butter vanilla. She's quite heavy!

We delivered the cake to Klang. It was quite an experienced...phew!. A beautifull and grand wedding reception. Not in a 5 stars hotel or grand dewan but in a kampong bungalow with rows after rows of white canopies, abundance of fresh flowers lots of delicious foods and desserts., and all the kampong folks are invited. Young and unexperience..Ain did a great job as the event manager. You did a fantastic job Ain!

Kadang2 kerana banyak persiapan yg kena di bereskan dan 'last minute preparation', meyediakan meja kek untuk upacara memotong kek terlepas pandang. Sepatutnya meja kek di hias supaya kecantikan kek teserlah dan menarik setiap mata yg memandang apatah lagi ia adalah salah satu acara yg penting dalam majlis. Sayang sekali selepas kita berbelanja untuk mendapat kek yg dihajati tetapi 'presentation' nya mengecewakan. Caterer hendak lah di beritahu awal2 supaya menyediakan meja kek yg 'glamorous', kerana banyak yg terjadi last minute tangkap muat sahaja, kain alas meja sengget sebelah, warna tak masuk thema, meja terlalu kecil dsb nya..

ini lah yg terjadi bila kek dah sampai, meja kek belum
di sediakan, akhir nya meja kelihatan tak sempurna..

Di sini AyannMama ingin berkongsi idea dari pembacaan, melayari internet dan pengalaman kami yang tak seberapa..

1. Lokasi meja - jika majlis resepsi di adakan di dewan tentukan meja tidak dekat dengan pintu, pemadam api (fire extinguisher), tanda 'Exit', tanda 'Toilet' dan sebagainya. Carilah 'background' yg cantik bila di adakan sesi photo. Begitu juga kalau di adakan di rumah carilah background yg sesuai.

2. Kelopak bunga rose, bunga segar, belon, lilin dan juga lampu, gambar pengantin juga boleh di gunakan untuk menghias meja.

3. Biar lah kek nampak tinggi untuk mendapat impak maksima! Walaupun kek setingkat kalau tahu cara nya masih boleh nampak 'grand'. Ya..gunakan pillars dan kek stand yg agak tinggi!

4. Sediakan pisau kek yang cantik dengan pinggan alas serta sudu kek. Piring2 dessert, napkin(kain atau kertas yg cantik) juga patut ada kerana sesudah memotong kek senang di hidangkan terus.

We hope you had a wonderful weekend. We had a lot of calls and emails inquiring about renting our dulang hantaran. Sorry if we took sometime to attend to your inquiries. We try our best to entertain all of you as soon as we can. Anyways, today I would like to update you guys on our dulang hantaran rentals (click here for the original post). We've added some new 'dulang' and also revised our rental charges.

First, we start with the original dulang and our most popular. You can rent this at only RM20 each. We have 8 squares and 3 of the round ones...

The humble Whoopie Pies make its way to the 'Dulang Hantaran'

I think whoopie pies are catching on here. Despite their humble appearence, lack of exclusivity and snob appeal (compare to the chic macaroons or cupcakes!) there is evidence that these treats are quickly becoming chic too. With special mixes, gourmet recepies, special shape and with props from Martha Stewart..will contribute to the pies social climb!

Last week we managed to dress-up our whoopie pies to look like a high-end dessert for a dear customer who wants it for his sister's engagement 'hantaran'. Have a look..

Whoopies are little cake-like cookie sandwiches filled with buttercream that started in New England and have now spread to the famous European food hall. Must try..don't worry..harga lebih kurang sama dgn cupcakes je. For the time being we have chocolate and vanilla. With a little bit extra we can decorate it like Harrods(London) Whoopie pies..topping using fondant icing.

Cake competition and no internet..

The internet at my house is not working for amost 2 weeks already. It happened after the phone line was struck by lightning. Thanks to Telekom's "efficient" service, it still isn't working after almost 2 weeks. or has it been 2 weeks plus already..? so to those who emailed me your order im sorry for the late reply. Now you know why.

Anyways, I'm using the internet a my friends house and I cant take that long. So im just gonna post a few pictures from the recent cake competition that I joined. I didn't win but sokay. It was fun and really good experience. I still feel proud of my cake =)
